What is Senses?
§  Senses are physiological capacities of organisms that provide data for perception.

What are your senses?
§  You use your senses to gather information about the outside world.
§  You can see, hear, taste, smell and touch things.
§  You can also detect  pain, pressure, temperature, and the position and movement of your body.
§  All these sensations are changed into electrical signals and carried to your brain which then puts all the information together to produce the whole picture.

FIVE SENSES

SIGHT
Ø  The eye is the organ of vision.
Ø  We see with our eyes.
Ø  Sight or vision is the capability of the eye(s) to focus and detect images of visible light on photoreceptors in the retina of each eye that generates electrical nerve impulses for varying colors, hues, and brightness

      HEAR
Ø  The ear is the organ of hearing.
Ø  We hear with our ears.
Ø  Hearing or audition is the sense of sound perception.

TASTE
Ø  The receptors for taste, called taste buds, are situated chiefly in the tongue, but they are also located in the roof of the mouth and near the pharynx.
Ø  We taste with our tongue.
Ø  It refers to the capability to detect the taste of substances such as food, certain minerals, and poisons, etc.
Ø  They are able to detect four basic tastes: salty,
       sweet, bitter, and sour.

SMELL
Ø  The nose is the organ responsible for the sense of smell.
Ø  We smell with our nose.
Ø  Smell or olfaction is the other "chemical" sense.

TOUCH
Ø  We touch and feel with our skin.
Ø  Touch or somatosensory, also called tactition or mechanoreception, is a perception resulting from activation of neural receptors
Ø  Four kinds of touch sensations can be identified: cold, heat, contact, and pain.
Ø  Hairs on the skin magnify the sensitivity and act as an early
            warning system for the body

“Our senses are indeed our doors and windows on this world, in a very real sense the key to unlocking of meaning and the wellspring of creativity
